Why the fourth side of the cap matters
Most capped composites are capped on three sides, leaving the underside of the board as exposed composite. Terrain's cap wraps all four sides, bottom included, and TimberTech adds its Mold Guard technology. That matters most on decks that stay damp underneath: ground-level decks with little airflow, decks under heavy tree cover, and the low rear decks over clay soil that hold moisture after rain in much of Montgomery County. For decks like that, we quote Terrain alongside the Trex boards.
Five earth tones
Brown Oak and Rustic Elm are the dark browns, Sandy Birch is a light tan, and Silver Maple and Stone Ash are grays. All five carry a wood grain pattern. As with every composite, the darker colors run warmer in the sun.
What is in it
TimberTech reports that its PRO composite decking uses up to 80% recycled material, and states that the Terrain collection is made in the USA. That recycled share is lower than the 94 to 95% reported for Trex Enhance or Fiberon Good Life, which is why Terrain is on our WPC decking page but not the eco decking page. Its case is the four-sided cap, not the recycled figure.
Installation notes
The 12 foot length comes grooved only, so square-edge boards for stairs and borders are ordered in 16 or 20 foot lengths. TimberTech sets the joist spacing, gapping and fastener requirements in its installation guide; we follow it for the warranty. See deck installation for how a job runs.
Common questions
Is TimberTech PRO Terrain the same as AZEK decking?
No. TimberTech makes both. The PRO line, including Terrain, is a capped composite with wood fiber in the core. The AZEK line is a cellular PVC board with no wood.
Is Terrain good for a ground-level deck?
It is one of the better composite choices there, because the cap covers the underside too. Any low deck still needs airflow and drainage underneath; we check both before quoting.
