WPC Decking
Wood plastic composite deck boards do not rot, splinter or need staining. We carry capped boards from Trex, TimberTech and Fiberon, list what each is made of, and build or resurface the deck they go on.
Eco Decking
A deck board makes this page only for an attribute you can check: FSC-certified wood modified to last without tropical hardwood, wood modified with heat alone, or a manufacturer-reported recycled share of 94% or more.
Composite or modified wood?
Composite boards blend wood fiber and plastic under a protective cap. They never need staining, hold their color, and the ones we carry report recycled content of up to 95%. They get hot in direct sun, dark colors most. Start with Trex Enhance or Fiberon Good Life for an affordable composite deck.
Modified wood is real wood made durable without tropical hardwood: Kebony and Accoya are FSC-certified pine modified with a liquid, and Thermory ash is modified with heat and steam. No plastic, and it weathers to silver gray unless oiled.
The deck under the boards
Decking lasts only as long as the frame it sits on. Every job starts with an inspection of the footings, joists and the ledger connection to the house, and most new decks in the District, Montgomery County and Northern Virginia need a building permit.
