Two routes to a waterproof floor
WPC vinyl (contains PVC). Wood plastic composite planks have a foamed core that is waterproof, quieter and warmer underfoot than stone-core SPC. The collections we carry, such as COREtec CR504 Retro Revival, carry GREENGUARD Gold certification for low chemical emissions and have a cork underlayment attached.
PVC-free alternatives. If you would rather avoid vinyl entirely, Wicanders WISE Cork Inspire uses a cork-based rigid core with no PVC, and Marmoleum Cinch Loc Seal puts natural linoleum on a waterproof core. Both are floating click floors.

What "waterproof" does and does not cover
A waterproof core will not swell from a spill or a pet accident. The seams of any click floor are still water resistant rather than sealed, so standing water from a leaking dishwasher should be dried promptly, and full bathrooms get a sealed perimeter. Water under the floor, such as vapor coming up through a basement slab, is a separate problem that we test for before we install.

Below-grade rooms are the most common request we see, from finished basements in Silver Spring and Rockville to English basements in Capitol Hill and Petworth. Common questions
Is WPC flooring non-toxic?
WPC contains PVC, so it is not a PVC-free product. The collections we sell are independently certified for low chemical emissions (GREENGUARD Gold or FloorScore). If avoiding PVC is your priority, choose cork or Marmoleum.
Can waterproof flooring go in a basement?
Yes, WPC, WISE cork and Marmoleum Cinch Loc Seal are all rated for below-grade use when the slab passes a moisture test and a vapor barrier is used where the manufacturer requires one.
