Why a hardwax oil
Polyx-Oil penetrates the wood fibers and leaves a thin microporous wax surface. It will not crack, peel or flake the way a worn film finish does, and a scuffed traffic lane can be cleaned and re-oiled on its own. For busy households that is the main advantage: maintenance happens in an afternoon, not a full sand and refinish.
Honest about ingredients
The oils and waxes are plant based. The standard formula also contains a benzene-free mineral spirit so it can be spread, which means real ventilation during application and curing. Osmo publishes the VOC content for each product on its data sheet, and we share it on request.
Where it makes sense in the DMV
Original oak and heart pine floors in DC rowhouses, Takoma Park bungalows and Old Town Alexandria homes often look best with an oiled finish, which deepens the grain instead of sitting on top of it. It is also used on new unfinished engineered floors and on cork.

Common questions
Is Osmo Polyx-Oil food safe or child safe?
Once fully dry, Osmo states the finish is resistant to saliva and sweat per DIN 53160 and suitable for children's toys per EN 71.3. Keep children and pets out during application and drying.
Are oily rags from Osmo dangerous?
Yes. Rags soaked in drying oils can self-ignite. Lay them flat to dry outdoors or store them in a sealed metal container with water before disposal.
